Location
Hotel
Buena Vista Beach Resort is situated on Baja’s famed East
Cape, 45 minutes north of the Los Cabos International Airport and
an hour and a half south of La Paz.
Ownership
The Valdez Family: Jesus “Chuy” Valdez (father),
Imelda Valdez (mother), Esaul Valdez (son and hotel manager), Axel
Valdez (son and director of marketing and sales), Felipe Valdez
(son).
History
Located on Baja’s magnificent Sea of Cortez, between
Cabo San Lucas and La Paz (45 minutes north of the Los Cabos International
Airport) Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort began as a beachfront
hacienda. It was originally built as the vacation retreat by Mexican
General Agustín Olachea, two-time governor of Baja California
Sur.
In
October 1976, Jesus “Chuy” Valdez, a young entrepreneur
from La Paz with great dreams, leased this property. At that time,
the East Cape was virtually undiscovered. The area’s pristine
beauty, world-class sport fishing, safe beaches and pure underground
hot springs made it an ideal place for a resort. He named it Spa
Buenavista and opened with 13 rooms. Valdez purchased the property
in 1981 and began expanding the hotel to include 45 rooms, a fleet
of 20 fishing boats, lushly landscaped grounds with pool, swim-up
bar and world-class restaurant. In 1992 the resort’s name
was changed to Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort.
Hotel
Buena Vista Beach Resort retains the “Old Mexico”
style of hospitality. This four-star resort welcomes you with
wide-open arms and makes you feel like one of the family. It’s
no wonder that guests return again and again, year after year.
Design
Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort is a tropical oasis.
Lushly landscaped
with palms, colorful bougainvillea and hibiscus and fragrant plumeria
trees, fountains and natural hot springs Jacuzzis, this one-story
hotel is laid back and lovely. The pace is mellow. Architecture
and furnishings are simple and comfortable. Accommodations 60
garden view, pool front and ocean front rooms with two double
or king-size bed, full bath and telephone. Rooms are terraced
down the hillside to the beach and the warm waters of the Sea
of Cortez. There are umbrellas on the beach and hammocks on the
patios of many rooms.
Activities
Hotel Buena Vista's fishing fleet is the most experienced
on the East Cape, and includes 20 boats, from 23-foot Center Console
Super Pangas and 28 single engine cruisers, 29-foot Twin Engines
Cruisers to a 31-foot Twin Engines Cruisers. All are fully equipped
with safety and fishing equipment and are manned by professional
crews (experienced in both conventional and fly-fishing) who know
the sea and its denizens.
Guests
can also enjoy the pool, and swim, dive and snorkel western
North America’s only living coral reef. They can take tours
into nearby mountains to hot springs, Indian rock paintings and
waterfalls and afterward indulge in a relaxing massage. Bird-watching
tours are available, as are ATV, Jet Ski and kayak rentals, along
with shuffleboard, ping pong, horseshoes and pool.
El
Pescador Bar
Before or after dinner, old and new friends gather in the beachfront
El Pescador Bar, adjacent to the restaurant to sip cocktails,
watch the big-screen TV, check their email or play rousing games
of pool and ping-pong. Happy Hour is from 4 to 5 p.m. daily. Mariachis—Mexican
strolling musicians—will frequently drop in and play for
guests. Open from 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Swim-up Palapa Bar
The social hub of Buena Vista Beach Resort is the swim-up bar
under the giant palapa at the pool. The beautiful fresh-water
pool is the perfect place to unwind after a hard day of fishing
or touring. It’s also a great place to spend an afternoon under
an umbrella reading a book. Beach towels are available daily.
Hungry? Order up a plate of Nachos or a hamburger. When the
boats come back from fishing and all sorts of people descend on
the pool, you can be sure that someone will start up a wild game
of water volleyball. Join in. What more could you ask?. Open
from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM
El Navigante Restaurant
Meals are served either in the lovely El Navigante Restaurant
or outdoors on the oceanfront terrace. Snacks, such as our famous
Nachos, can be ordered poolside. The breakfast menu is extensive,
and offers an array of both traditional American and Mexican favorites.
At lunch, choose between hamburgers, tostadas, tacos, burritos,
enchiladas, soups and salads. Dinner’s menu is even more
extensive. The American plan menu includes a large selection of
beef, chicken, seafood and Mexican dishes. Soup and salad come
with the meal. For those wanting to eat the fish they just caught
fresh that day, the chef will prepare it to their liking. Guests
in the mood for lobster, shrimp, surf and turf or a giant seafood
combination for two can order a la carte, off the European Plan
menu. Picnic lunches are provided on each fishing boat and Saturday
nights are celebrated for the Mexican Buffet and Ballet Folklórico
Floor Show.
