April and May are transitional months, with the waters warming up (and down) we have been seeing a large number of marlin (the word finicky comes to mind) and many takers but even more teasers. But if what we have seen when the waters were warm is any indication of what we can expect as we head into our high season, it's going to be one heck of a year!
This past winter we had the best yellowtail bite, some say in 20 years! And so far this spring we've had at least 12 different species targeted that include striped marlin, sailfish, dorado, tuna, shark and roosterfish back in the counts.
The waters are warming up quickly and are into the low 80s already although there has been a colder current running below us and out in the middle and just enough wind and chop to really get the bite going some days. Now that the spring bite's here...it's time to bring back the weekly fishing reports as well. Check the reports out at our fish report site or follow us on our Face Book site.
If you're headed this way you should consider switching things up just a bit...try some surf fishing with Felipe; it's an adventure and a half!!! Penn Reels is promoting him and his guide service and supplying him with their latest gear.
Now that we have the Eclipse moored in the Marina Puerto Los Cabos, you’ll have more options to spring into action. We use all of the latest technology as well as generations of experience to help make your time on the water the most productive possible. And with the improvements to our bait and catch holding tanks, the addition of downriggers and more; no matter which area you decide to depart from we hope you will find our efforts worth our while. Also of note the Mosca had an overhaul this winter that includes a new motor. Man this panga can really put out now!
For those of you in the Southern California area, or who connect through Southern California, here’s a deal we just found online. Southwest Airlines has acquired AirTran and beginning May 24th, started a service from Orange County to Cabo. A 1-way ticket with them is $119 or $238 roundtrip. Reservations for AirTran can be made at airtran.com or call 1-800-247-8726 toll free.
The month of June will see the tournament season really kick into gear on the East Cape starting with a little private one among the Cannon group here at the resort now.
And here's the answer to last month’s question: Which yellowtail was bigger; Esaul's or Felipe's and what was the weight for each one? The first person with the correct response, winning a half day of super panga fishing for yellowtail was: Mr. Kevin Flynn
The correct answer was: Esaul's weighing in at 32 pounds while Felipe's weighed 27 pounds. While no one was dead on, the closest was Mr. Kevin Flynn, who estimated 34 pounds for Esaul's and 23 pounds for Felipe's. His answer earns him a half of day out on our newly overhauled Mosca with Capt. Victor Jr. with its brand new Suzuki 115hp motor.
Here the question of this Newsletter: There is a fish in the Sea of Cortez that is usually seen and heard here in the Spring, which is it and with what technique do you use to fish it?
The winner will be the first with the correct response and wins a special dinner for two. This offer is good through the end of the Summer season.

Spring may be the transition time for water temperatures and species, but it certainly is not for our beautiful weather! There’s a reason many of our long-time guests return year after year during this time. April saw the entire resort filled for a wedding and fiesta and in May we hosted several of our long-time friends and guests that come each Spring and stay anywhere from two weeks to a month. These folks really know how to relax and have a good time! Plus, it gives the ones that fish more options of when they want to go out if the wind decides to pick up.
Our good friends from Lance Campers choose to reward their top sales folks from across North America this Spring with us and enjoyed several days out on the water. Anita Hazard always likes her Spring morning swims in the beautiful Sea of Cortez and stays a few weeks, while Dave and Elizabeth Copeland stay the whole month to make sure he gets his fishing fix, and with us from the start, Suzanna Colyer and David Siegle, along with his lovely wife, Leslie have been coming down since my dad opened the resort, also during the Spring time. Click here to read a testimonial from one of our East Coast guests, John and Jean Manfredi who just spent two weeks enjoying our spring-time weather and fishing.
One of the additional perks we provide returning guests is the option to store their toys and equipment with us in a secure storage room. Have you checked the prices for carrying your rods on flights these days? Just think of the space you could save in your suitcase if you didn’t have to also haul your snorkeling gear back and forth?
Sadly, there are those that still seem to be confused about where the country’s problem areas are, and the simple truth is that our state of Baja California Sur (Southern Baja) has not been impacted by those problems. Do you think 20 of the world’s top, major leaders (including the U.S.) would be meeting here this month (June 18 & 19) at the G-20 Summit Meeting; previously held in Cannes, France and other top destinations around the world if it weren’t safe? Yes, you will see heightened and high profile security here during that time. But you do in Washington D.C or any other place hosting such events. There’s a reason why we focus our off-site activities in San Jose del Cabo instead of Cabo San Lucas, several in fact. There’s a charm about this place, offering a mix of an old-style Mexican town with all the modern facilities you could ask for including a Wal-Mart! Not to mention the fact that it’s a lot closer to the resort so you’ll spend more time exploring than driving around. One of the brand new day trips we can host for you is at the Dolphin Discovery Center in the beautiful Marina Puerto Los Cabos. Friendly dolphins swim in their natural habitat in a large ocean cove where you too, can enjoy their company to the fullest. Check out the Dolphin program here.

This summer we plan to make kids our priority and will be introducing our first summer camp for kids from 8 to 12 years of age. With two one-week options, parents and grandparents can spend their days doing what they like best while the kids do as well. These will be bi-lingual camps what an opportunity for everyone to work on their cultural, language and outdoor skills.
The typical day will include a mix of free time (supervised), beach activities such as learning to kayak or SUP, day trips for activities such as a snorkel class and introduction to Cabo Pulmo Marine Park and of course fishing; while the evening will include some good old fashion fun playing shuffleboard, beach volleyball, bocce ball and bonfires. The first camp starts the day after the Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore so come a few days earlier to watch all the action at one of the world famous Bisbee tournaments.
In June: And don’t forget dear ol’ dad! What better way could there be to treat and honor the head of the household, than with a fishing trip with his loved ones. All fathers traveling with their families will stay for free with paying companion (not to exceed 4 nights). Promotion valid on Father’s Day weekend and based on a single adult room rate, meals plan.
In July: Kids under 12 stay free with each paying adult. Children must share room with adults with a maximum two children per couple. This offer excludes the Summer Camp program.
