Saltwater Fly Fishing

Fly-fishing Trips

Coastal

Batteling a roosterfish from shore, one of the many adventures fly fishing at East Cape6:40 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. Outfitters and guide services working with Hotel Buenavista Beach Resort fish along 30+ miles of beach with or without an American guide. Drive your own ATV or 4x4 vehicle along the beach. Once you spot birds disrupting the peaceful surface, you will probably have the chance to sight-cast to the boiling fish below. You will remember forever the adrenaline rush you will get as you fight these muscle-bound, hard fighting, saltwater species.

Pre-arrange trips prior to your arrival and once at the resort order your drinks and lunch so we can provide you with a small ice chest and your lunch.

Super Panga

East Cape-Baja Fly fishing out of a Super Panga 6:40 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. Our canopy-covered Super Pangas are the most versatile boat to fly-fish, allowing you to get within a double-haul of the beach as well off-shore; or, beach the boat, take a break, and cast to the boil from the sand if there’s a hot bite. A super panga allows you to cover more area than an ATV, and can get you to the fish faster. It also allows you to carry more gear and you can fish for species that are not usually found close to shore, such as dorado and tuna.

It is important that you pre-arrange your fly fishing trip prior to arrival in order to reserve the best fly-fishing savvy captain and/or English-speaking professional guide. Once at the resort, all that is left is to give your lunch and drink order to the boat master for the next day’s fishing.

Inshore and Offshore Cruisers

Stripped Marlin one of the main species off shore for fly fishing at East CapeIf off-shore and big fish or billfish are your target, you will be better off in a cruiser, a more comfortable and bigger boat, it is ideal with a captain and a mate to tease up your fish. You can also add an English-speaking guide. It is important that everyone on the boat knows what technique is being used to target your fish. First of all, a good crew will have the experience and knowledge to raise the fish for you. They will bait it, get it excited and close enough for you to come into the picture. When you, the mate and the Captain determines that it is within casting range, they yell cast, the Captain takes the boat out of gear, and you do the honors and ‘fling your fly’. Good luck, you will need it, as it is much easier to write about it than to keep your posture and do it!
