Buenavista Beach Resort we used to call it Spa Buena Vista in honor of our natural hot springs – is a fly-rod friendly hotel located in the heart of Baja California’s  East Cape.  Just a 45-minute drive from the Cabo San Lucas airport, the remote hotel has deservedly developed a reputation for catering to those interested in saltwater fly-fishing. Working closely with "Baja on the Fly", a fishing vacation and guide service, the hotel provides a variety of fly-fishing opportunities that includes:

Beach  on a 24-foot pontoon boat

Or Beach  on 4-wheel ATV's

Inshore in a super pangas

Offshore in a comfortable cruiser

Situated on the beach looking out toward the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) you are only a few steps from some of the most exciting fly-fishing available anywhere in the Baja peninsula.  Even before breakfast you can walk the beach and find where the hot springs beneath the hotel seep into the sea. The warm water attracts the baitfish, which in turn attracts different species that will take a fly . . . sierra mackerel, Pacific bonito, ladyfish, jack crevalle and roosterfish.

What a way to start the day!!

Buena Vista/Los Barriles

This area, located only forty-five minutes from the Los Cabos Airport, offers a multitude of options.  With its ten miles of accessible beaches and the 100-fathom curve within a few miles of shore, the Buena Vista/Los Barriles area is an attractive destination. Long sandy stretches of sandy beach interspersed with rocky points offer a variety of species.  Whether you are sight casting midday, fishing the gray light before the sun comes up or fishing the afternoon until the sun goes down, it is hard to find an area that offers as much.

Inshore, several rock reefs extend out from beach. Looking down into the water here, you are reminded of an aquarium.  There are a number of anchoring buoys put out by the hotels and locals that attract baitfish which in turn attract the larger fish. On many days these areas can be accessed with a float tube or small inflatable pontoon boat.

Beyond the 100-fathom curve, there are more commercial buoys where the fish seem to congregate. Beyond the curve, the billfish, dorado and tuna hang out feeding on squid, mackerel, flying fish and sardina.
